Collection: About Me

I am based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. My work is inspired by the narratives of the communities she lives in. I primarily use Acrylic, but embrace multimedia elements to add unexpected character to my paintings. Some of the work I've done has included copper wire, silk paper, and even collage from old sketchbooks.

My narrative style comes from my love of reading and foundation in scenic design. I credit theater with teaching me how to be an artist. My patterns reference the illustrative Art Nouveau tradition I first encountered in childhood books and which continue to inspire me.

In 2019 I had my daughter and in 2022 I had my son. My artistic practice changed dramatically. I began looking for ways to share universal themes within what felt like the confining space of full time parenthood. This practice helped me become enamored with the depth of ordinary life and stories in my immediate community. Art was no longer a way to obsessively document life, as in my old sketchbooks, but a way to experience living. I continue to carry that sentiment with me in every piece I create.
